PPF aftercare: how to wash and care for paint protection film

By Motorsport Wraps · STEK Certified Installer ·

Good film lasts years when it's looked after. Here's how to keep your PPF looking like the day you picked up the car.

The first week

New film needs time to settle. You may see small haze or water spots under the film at first; they usually clear up as it cures. Ask us at pickup how soon you can wash the car, and we'll go over it with you.

Washing

  • Hand wash with a pH-neutral car soap and a clean mitt.
  • Rinse grit off before you touch the paint.
  • Dry with a soft microfiber towel.
  • Skip automatic car washes with brushes.

What to avoid

  • Pointing a pressure washer straight at film edges.
  • Harsh solvents or abrasive polishes.
  • Leaving bird droppings and bug splatter to bake in the sun.

Make it easier with a coating

A ceramic coating over the film helps dirt and water slide off, so washes are faster and the film stays glossy. It's the add-on we recommend most with PPF.
